The Boston Red Sox have placed Tyler O’Neill (Maple Ridge, B.C.) on the 10-day injured list with right knee inflammation.

The move is retroactive to May 26, according to the Red Sox news release.

This is O’Neill’s second trip to the IL this season. He was previously sidelined from April 15 to April 22 after suffering a concussion in an on-field collision with Rafael Devers.

In 41 regular season games with the Red Sox in 2024, O’Neill has belted 11 home runs, which exceeds the nine he clubbed in 72 games with the St. Louis Cardinals last season.

With the Red Sox this season, he has split time between left field (17 starts) and right field (14 starts).

A third-round pick of the Seattle Mariners in 2013, O’Neill played parts of five seasons in the M’s organization before being traded to the Cardinals for left-hander Marco Gonzalez on July 21, 2017.

The Junior National Team and Langley Blaze alum made his major league debut with the Cardinals in 2018. His finest campaign came in 2021 when he batted .286 with 34 home runs and had a .912 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) and captured his second consecutive National League Gold Glove Award in left field.

Last December, he was dealt to the Red Sox by the Cardinals after two injury-riddled campaigns.

In total, in 518 big league contests, O’Neill has batted .247 with 89 home runs and 234 RBIs.

To fill O’Neill’s spot on the active roster, the Red Sox have recalled infielder Enmanuel Valdez from triple-A Worcester.
