Joey Loperfido gets his big league callup

Loperfido was featured on the first minor league recap of the year, and makes his second appearance in this column for getting his big league call up. His strikeout rate is still at 31%, which is concerning, but between the Astros struggling at the plate and Loperfido’s own performance, this was the right move for them. His power / speed combo should provide a strong foundation for him to start from, even if the strikeout issues plague him. Congrats to Joey!

The Tennessee Smokies have a 7 homer night

This past Wednesday, the Smokies (Cubs-AA) hit seven home runs in one game. Kevin Alcantara, James Triantos, and Pablo Aliendo hit two homers a piece, with Hadyn McGeary hitting one as well. The two homers were especially exciting to see from Kevin Alcantara, who went 0-26 to start the year, but has turned it around as of late and is hitting .232/.274/.709. Alcantara is on the 40-man, so there is some urgency to get him to the big leagues as soon as possible. I wrote about Triantos this offseason, and he has put up a respectable slash line of .288/.325/.493 with three home runs so far this year.
