Angus Crichton has re-signed with the Sydney Roosters, ending months of speculation around his future that saw him knock back multiple offers from several NRL rivals and the prying reach of rugby union.

Crichton, 28, looked bound to leave Bondi in May when Trent Robinson’s men picked up off-contract superstar David Fifita, but a spectacular contract backflip left the tricolours red-faced and the Queensland second-rower back on the Gold Coast through to 2026.

The Crichton re-signing, which was first reported by Danny Weidler on X (formerly Twitter) today and then unveiled by the Rooster soon after, will see Crichton stay in red, white, and blue until at least the end of the 2026 NRL season.

The Sporting Base can report Crichton has earned himself a $200,000-a-season upgrade, lifting his playing contract up to $800,000 in 2025 and 2026 after originally earning $600,000 a year.

Crichton has been one of Sydney’s best in 2024, already scoring seven tries in the 12 games he’s played. He was at his imperious best in the second State of Origin game too, helping New South Wales to a 38-18 victory.

There were plenty of whispers the 28-year-old wanted to follow fellow Roosters Joey Manu and Sua’ali’i in giving top-level rugby a go, but he today restated his biggest interest is rugby league.

“I’m incredibly proud to continue my journey with the Sydney Roosters,” he said.

“This team is like family to me, and so are the people within the club. There’s honestly nowhere else I’d rather be. I feel like I still have so much more to give, and I’m committed to continuing to bring my best and to playing my role for the team.”
